Eury’s overtaken jkminer and looks like he’s walking away. Trampz walks up the board, but look at how few WUs he has. He’s a million points away from Eury, but that small WU number means Trampz must have a savage machine. 2 GPUs, perhaps? Meanwhile, JMKarstetter, whom we poached from a team of overclockers, stays in the running with a WU number only half of jminer’s. And the mysterious Deltazx1 might be busy attending a burnout convention in Adelaide.

Still confused about how to get gpu folding going - the client didn’t recognize either my 5 year old GTX 760 or the random 2 year old Quadro in my CAD work computer.

Maybe updating drivers will help?

Interesting question would be how many flops a Cray could perform compared to one of these Ryzen CPUs and mega GPUs. I bet the latter would compare favorably.

The more recent Crays have performance measured in petaflops, which is a million gigaflops. The 1050GT in my machine is rated at two giga flops.

Basically behind each of these doors is a cabinet full of hundreds of processors and Nvidia Tesla gpus. The larger installations can have upwards of a million processor cores.

I don’t know the answer to that, but I can tell you that the most powerful supercomputer (Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Summ it) packs around 9000 IBM Power 9 CPUs (no idea how these compare to x86 hardware) and nearly 28,000 Nvidia Tesla V100 compute cards. The V100 is roughly similar to a GeForce 2080 in age and processing power, though tailored for compute rather than graphics processing.

I have a small army of mostly CPU based machines running so most of them finish 3 or 4 work units a day so massive number. I’ve only got 1 fairly large GPU and 2 small ones.

Seriously I have 12 machines cranking on this right now and I’ll try to spin up a couple more tomorrow.

The one I ordered for Ttyymmnn is rusty and corroded and filthy and the eBay seller is a d**k. I have a dispute lodged with Visa. I’m not even going to open my case for it.

So, I need a recommendation. Not the latest, greatest, most expensive, but something that will FOLD. Any suggestions?

Radeon RX580/590 is a great budget card and the AMD cards tend to do well on the calculations front. They historically were the preferred cards for bitcoin mining since they crunched numbers faster and had a lower MSRP than similar nvidia cards.

If you can get a good price on one, the nvidia GTX 1070TI uses the same power as the much less powerful 1060 and 1070, but puts up similar numbers to a 1080. But that’s a big bump in price. Used 580s are available for well under 200$. I’ve seen some for just 100-125$ while a 1070/1070TI is anywhere from 250-400$ depending on cooler design.

Check it - RX 580 giving the GTX 1060 a kick to the face despite costing 20-40$ less on ebay

Just awesome - it’s a few folks like that which can ruin the whole ebay experience.

The RX580 is an ok suggestion but they’re power hungry and don’t fold that awesome. I’d get something like an RX 5600 or RX 5700 depending on whether you had $3-400 to spend. If you only had $200 get either the GTX 1660 or the RX 5500.

They are cheap as hell right now which is a very good thing. I actually used to have a bunch for crypto minig. I am thinking of buying more honestly as well. Trying to figure out whether I want to buy a couple older GPUs or 1 big newer one.

I should probably wait to see what happens with this one before I order another. If I can’t get my money back, and this one functions, then why not just fold with it?
